ATF An Amazing Experience

Acquire the Fire! What an experience, a 27 hour pure life transforming event that was built around bringing the praise, worship and word of God into the lives of teenagers all around. Having the opportunity to just be in the presence of my fellow brother's and sister's in Christ and worshiping God, was remarkable. From the worship to the message that was shared, we we're able to acquire decision making opportunities for Christ, pattern-breaking challenges for "real-life" with God even, future-shaping perspectives that evidently encouraged myself and the youth see themselves in God's big plan.

God speaks through individuals in this conference, this is the event I personally look forward to every year, witnessing amazing dramas, well known bands, and fantastic speakers. As for this year the primary focus was on "Collisions", we are always faced with its in our human nature but these collisions occur frequently and we are in some way or another hurt. We as a group through Acquire The Fire were able to confront these collisions head on, as it became clear that God wants to comfort, heal, and put them back together. Even though the enemy continues to steal, kill and destroy, we know that Jesus' binds up the brokenhearted, proclaims freedom to the captives, and releases prisoners from the darkness. I and many others left our burdens at the cross throughout the course of the conference, for we know that God is the only one who can restore a soul, heal a heart and change a destiny. He healed many hearts, broken hearts. Acquire the Fire not only brought us closer to God, but created an atmosphere of life-altering face to face time with our divine Saviour. Be sure to check out next year's Acquire the Fire, it's definitely something we as youth should look forward to!

Alpha Course Love

Our Alpha Weekend Away, in November, was held at Teen Ranch in Orangeville. The weather was perfect and God revealed Himself powerfully as we learned about the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

During times of ministry, one team member shared a moving image of Jesus, surrounded by light with his arms outstretched, welcoming all in His embrace. An Alpha guest shared how she’d dreamed, some months ago, about a gathering of people in a beautiful place, with a lake, bridge and gardens. She discovered Teen Ranch was that place! God also encouraged her that He is working mightily in her life.

Another guest felt Jesus holding her hand during prayer, bringing great comfort and healing to her. She also told how loved and accepted she feels at Alpha.

Another related how, through a word of knowledge, she received personal encouragement about a difficult time she was facing. An Alpha helper committed her life fully to Jesus, and now wants to be baptized, attend a Bible class and serve the Lord. Another guest opened her heart tentatively to the Lord saying, “If you don’t open up, how will you know?”

Holy Spirit moved powerfully, there were lots of tears shed, and glowing faces everywhere. God did, as Pastor Anthony said, “Super-abundantly more than we could have asked or expected!”

The ‘icing on the cake’ was to celebrate the wedding of Glenda and Avis (Merdjanian) on Sunday afternoon at Teen Ranch. They grew to know and love each other while serving as facilitators on the Alpha team, so it was fitting to celebrate their wedding, conducted by Pastor Elly, with their families and all their Alpha family!

Le Shawnna: ATF Testimony

For the past few months, I had been drifting from God. I would be up and down: one week into God, and the next I wasn’t. I’d heard about Acquire the Fire and thought it would be a good experience.

I was a little low on funds and decided to not go, but a week before ATF, my mom said that we could afford it. I thought this event would be all about having fun with friends, but it proved to be more. At first, I went expecting an answer to a pending question. My motive for going had changed for the better, but God still had other plans for me. Isn’t it amazing how God always gives you what you need?

Friday night’s session was about how much God loves us. Recently, when running from God, this thought crossed my mind frequently. I always pushed it aside, but in that moment, hearing it from the outside, it sounded a lot different. I was beginning to realize who my God is. My stubborn heart had surrendered, and I felt free. It was as though the speaker was talking directly to me. As if he knew my situation. But it wasn’t him; it was God calling me, knocking at the door of my heart. I remember the speaker saying something that stuck with me. He said that sometimes there are things we need to sacrifice in our lives to truly live for Him. I knew this, and it was my reason for ignoring my Saviour. He said that we need to remember God’s love is bigger than those things.

After the message, there was an altar call where I lay it all at the feet of my precious Jesus. The next day, I worshipped freely and rejoiced in the forgiveness of our Almighty Lord. I’m really looking forward to going next year by God’s will.

Earlier, I mentioned I was looking for an answer to a pending question: Who am I? At ATF, my question was answered. I am a daughter of the Most High, and He loves more than I can even imagine. What an Awesome God!

GKM’S INTERNATIONAL MARKETFEST – a culture and diversity celebration!

A taste of the cuisines of the world … we had fun, fellowship & food as we joined together with GKM attendees and guests from our Markham Road corridor. The evening was a great success as people came and went throughout the evening.

The event was sponsored by various corporations and so there were free draws for prizes to add to the genre and fun of the evening.

We thank God for the many volunteers at GKM and thank God that we are a multi-cultural church with a shared identity in Christ. We are different but we are ONE!
